Watching movies and TV shows from the internet is so much fun. However, the problem with this activity is that you may have to endure a much smaller screen as compared to that of a conventional TV. As a consequence, the viewing experience is much more limited, making it impossible to share it with other people. Also, you may miss out on some detailed pictures the video is capable of presenting. The first thing that you have to do is to acquire all the tools and materials that you will need, such as the video cable. There are several types of video cable that you can choose from. There's the S-video cable, the VGA cable, and the high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable. An S-video cable may be easier to use since all television sets have an S-video input. Moreover, most computers have an S-video port that can be connected to the S-video input of your TV screen using a very cheap S-video cable with around four to seven pins.
But if you want to enjoy a better picture quality on your TV screen, then you may want to use the VGA cable. Or you may choose the DVI to HDMI cable. This type of cable can display resolutions up to high definition 1080p on your television screen. However, you have to make sure though that your TV supports a 19-pin HDMI connection.
You may also have to connect a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug into the line-out port of your PC sound card. As for the other end of the cord, plug it into the audio input port on your TV to play stereo sound through your TV speakers.
Once you have successfully plugged in all the cords, try turning on the TV and the computer. Let your computer automatically detect the television as a second monitor plugged into the system. With your TV's remote control, modify your settings and switch to "External Inputs" from the menu. Also, change the default "Video 1" to a different selection such as "HDMI 1" or "Video 2", depending on how you have made the connection.
