On the night that both Manchester sides tie at 1-1 in the Champions league, United manager gets bothered by goalkeeper's question.
On Wednesday, September 14, Aleksandar Kolarov curls his free kick over the wall in Napoli which provided Manchester City a point in their Champions League debut.
Sir Alex Ferguson's problem about which goalkeeper was his No. 1 was unmasked last Wednesday when he told a Television reporter something about her trying to find little things that were stupid by inquiring if David de Gea could be dropped from the match on Sunday against Chelsea.
The Danish goalkeeper, Anders Lindegaard, who believes that he has a call on being the first selection, scored two fine late saves to maintain a 1-1 draw for Manchester United's Champions League at Benfica. The problem caused Ferguson to lose his temper with the ITV presenter Kelly Cates, who is the daughter of Liverpool's manager Kenny Dalglish. Ferguson reportedly stated something to the effect that it was his understanding that we had before that game that on Sunday David de Gea will be playing. Ferguson also stated to Cates that he didn't understand why he asked these questions.
Lindegaard stated that he wants to be No.1 on a night when both Manchester City and United were rescued to a 1-1 draw after falling behind. The rescue came to Manchester City by a 74th minute goal by Aleksandar Kolarov goal in a brilliants Champions League debut at home in Napoli. When he was asked about challenging for the first spot on the team spot, he responded something to the effect that he wasn't here to pick his nose.
Ferguson later restated his faith in De Gea stating that he was quite impressed with Anders, but that, actually, they have two great goalkeepers in David and Anders. He also stated that they were consistently getting to the point when they were going to share that. On Tuesday, Anders will possibly play against Leeds United and on Sunday, David will play against Chelsea. There are many chances to spread that load, since coming over to the English game, it's such an intensely competitive league for a young goalkeeper. There will be a time when he will have to give him a break.
At Bolton, last Saturday, Lindegaard wasn't chosen for United's win in spite of the fact that Ferguson was apparently giving some serious consideration to protecting De Gea from the aerial threat that punished him on the opening weekend of the season at West Bromwich Albion. Lindegaard reportedly stated about facing Benfica that it was great fun and very amusing and that's the most important reason that you play football, for the fun of it. He also reportedly stated something to the effect of the fact that if there aren't some nerves involved then it's not that much fun because it's what makes him feel alive and that he was satisfied with his performance but that it was somewhat sad that he failed to save the first goal.
