By Ruth Childress

Watching video on your computer can be frustrating, mainly because a computer monitor is so much smaller than a television screen. Unless you have a large monitor, you can miss the detailed picture the video is capable of presenting. Also, small computer monitors limit sharing of the viewing experience with other people. One solution to these problems is to watch computer on your television screen. Here, now, is how to watch computer on TV screen.

The first thing you have to do is to connect your computer to a TV screen. In order to do this, you need to have a video cable. Most computers have an S-video port that can be connected to the S-video input of your TV screen using a very cheap S-video cable with around four to seven pins. You need to figure out what kind of output connections your computer has, and then buy a cable for one of those that will also attach to your television.

For better picture quality, you may use standard VGA ports to connect the computer to the TV, or do so via the DVI to HDMI cable. A 19-pin HDMI connection is recommended provided that your TV supports this type of connection because it can display resolutions up to high definition 1080p on your television screen. Apart from that, you also have to connect a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug into the line-out port of your PC sound card. As for the other end of the cord, plug it into the audio input port on your TV to play stereo sound through your TV speakers.

After establishing the connection, turn on the TV and then turn on your computer. Let your computer detect the television automatically as a second monitor plugged into the system. With your TV's remote control, switch the setting to "External Inputs" from the menu. Change the default "Video 1" to a different selection which may be "HDMI 1" or "Video 2" depending on how you have made the connection.

You may also need to change the screen resolution of your TV using the display settings in your control panel. Otherwise, the picture may appear distorted. The last step is to open a media player that is capable of playing the computer video you wish to see on the television screen.

Connecting your computer to a television and setting the TV as a monitor allows you to enjoy any video playable on your computer on a larger screen. With that being said, this is how to watch computer on TV screen.
