Always Consult An Attorney When Dealing With Disability Insurance

By Rob Wakefield

A consultant educates the claimant about time-lines, needed tasks, required documents, as well as other conditions. Claimants are advised what to do and the way to do it. A claimant without a consultant might be lost and frustrated in the web of red ink and bureaucratic paperwork. The consultant can easily answer any questions and clarify the conditions and reasoning of the system.

A Consultant will stand with a claimant in the hearing and aid with questions and moral support. Other consultants handle all kinds of disability claims in fields including employee and insurance company disability claims. Those that need help receiving disability from the US government, insurance company, or employers use a Claims Consultant for help. Some could have been previously denied a claim and want a professional that knows the complexity and requirements of the area. Other claimants don't wait to be denied. These people rapidly seek a consultant in order to get their claim authorized as rapidly and with as little stress as possible.

A Claims Consultant gives knowledge and expertise achieved through working in the disability field for years. They offer assistance, make recommendations, and help claimants handle issues. Many are past attorneys, insurance professionals, or other experts. Some might work alone or as part of an organization, partnership, or firm. A consultant educates the claimant regarding time-lines, necessary tasks, important papers, and other stipulations. Claimants are informed what to do and the way to do it. A claimant without a consultant can be lost and aggravated in the web of red ink and bureaucratic paperwork. The consultant can easily answer any questions and explain the terms and reasoning of the system.

A Disability Claims Consultant could concentrate on federal disability, which is really a large area nowadays, as a lot of disabled people try to get help getting Social Security Disability benefits from a system backed up with cases.

Paying the prices for a Claims Consultant is probably not as difficult as imagined. Many contract to get paid only when the claim is won. This element helps a lot of low-income folks afford their services. Those professionals specializing in Social Security Disability get their fees after monies are awarded.

A professional could also recommend what to do when things are going terribly. Potential troubles might be taken care of ahead of time, consequently preventing a probably prolonged set-back or disapproval.

What XM Radio Like?

By Owen Jones

XM Radio is one of the two largest American satellite radio broadcasters. They broadcast over 150 programmes of all types like sports, traffic, weather, music of all decades and comedy.

The principal area of their broadcasting activities though is music. After all, that is what most people like to listen to whilst they are driving or working at home or in the yard.

The music of XM Radio is wide-ranging, catering for the requirements of every music ever recorded. For example, of the sixty-eight music channels, there are channels that play music from only one decade: from the Forties to the Noughties!

Then, transversing those barriers of time, there are music channels that only play Rock and Roll or only play Bee Bop or only play the Blues. There are also channels that only play new records.

There are others that only play film soundtracks. In fact, XM music radio has most bases covered. There are even channels that play the music that is being played live in nightclubs such as the 'B.B. King Club' in New York City! The 'Blue Note Club' is there too! In fact, the world of music is your oyster.

Then, on a different level, there are the leisure shows fronted by people like Snoop Dog and comedy shows with characters such as Opie and Anthony. There is family comedy as well and Playboy Radio for the older members of the family, although Playboy Radio pictures do not have to be rated.

Sports fans will get pleasure from the devoted sports channels. XM Radio's sports channels cover such sports as American football, basketball and baseball on a daily basis, although there are international sports featured for the more out-going as well: worldwide, International sports such as soccer, the most popular participation sport in the world.

In fact, there are currently thirty-eight sports channels in XM's stable, although by the time you read this, there will probably be three or four times that amount. Many service providers are flocking to Xm's service in order to achieve nationwide coverage in the United States.

News channels are there as well. Channels like the world-respected BBC World Service, CNBC, Fox, the controversial C-Span, CNN, the Discovery Channel, NASCAR Racing, E-Entertainment and many more.

If you need apparatus to receive this interesting new service, you can easily find it on the Internet or in your neighbourhood shopping centre. The cost of the apparatus will not break the bank, but it is best if you price it up and then sit back a week or two because new 'special offers' are coming out all the time.

The best technique to get XM Satellite Radio for today's best price is to wait and look which way the wind is blowing, in a short while you will get this great satellite broadcaster for a bargain price.

DJing For The Beginner

By Madison Alexander

Your DJ mixer is used to control the sound volume that hits the speakers and is placed in the center of your turntables pro CD players.

A mixer also allows for queuing up of tracks into headphones or monitors, and can incorporate digital effects that can be added to the output.

If you're using a laptop to mix beats with a number of different software, your laptop would still be connected to your mixer.

When people like Dr.Dre started his future career as a DJ when he was a young teenager, the term "Digital DJ" did not exist for him.

The only bad things are that DJ turntables can be rather expensive and hard to carry around. Plus, you'll need a record collection.

There is a lot of people out there who prefer a turntable that uses CDs. instead of starting a vinyl collection, they can simply use the hundreds of CDs they have.

A lot of DJs DJing today likes this kind of turntable because it lets them to their CD collection and not vinyl.

Every DJ will be in need of professional headphones. These will allow you to listen to what you've created on a separate channel to make sure it sounds perfect before it's played over the PA speakers.

While your current mix is being played, you are secretly setting up the next thing for people to hear. You can always be one step ahead of yourself before anyone hears what you play.

If you want to be successful DJ, you're going to need to learn all types of music. This way you just don't hit one type of audience.

You also need a personality that people can flow with. And you need to be confident. That does not seem to hard hard, does it?

Be sure to know before hand what type of crowd you're playing for. If a bunch rockers are in your presence, you really don't want to start mixing hip hop.

Before you take a gig prepare yourself to play a certain type of music. You always want to know who you are playing for prior to showing up.

Satellite Radio: Why Is It So Popular?

By Owen Jones

The modern entertainment world is awash with ways of and goods for using up our spare time and at the same time filling our brains with mindless trivia and advertising junk messages. In between the programmes and the music, the message is 'buy, buy, buy; from me, me, me'. This is one of the reasons why satellite radio has become so popular, but I will come back to that later.

One of the major reasons why people like satellite radio is because if you drive fairly long distances, you do not keep getting out of range of the station it took you ten minutes to find and look for another one.

Satellite radio stations tend to possess a large to very large footprint. In other words, you ought to be able to keep listening to the same station if you want without continuously retuning.

Not only that, but satellite radio is always digital in nature which means that the signal will be better and the ensuing sound quality will be far better too. This means that the background noise that we have been conventionally used to has virtually disappeared.

The sound from a good piece of digital stereo equipment is second to none. In reality an AF /FM radio cannot hold a candle to a satellite radio station.

The cost of satellite radio gear has dropped dramatically, which has increased its public awareness and uptake, which in turn has increased sales and allowed the price to fall further. Nowadays, a satellite radio receiver is as cheap as chips.

Not only that, but in the early days, in the Seventies and Eighties, parabolic dishes had to be extremely focused. They needed to be trained on the satellite as a satellite TV dish still has to be now, but a radio system does not need to be so accurate anymore, which allows them to be used in cars and boats.

If you get fed up of the adverts that constantly drone out of terrestrial radio at you, it can be a good idea to find a satellite radio channel that suits you and subscribe to it. For $10-12 a month, you will get the type of programming that you prefer without all the ads!. Isn't that wonderful?

As with all forms of entertainment, at the end of the day it is up to the end user to choose whether the cost of satellite radio is acceptable, but one thing is for sure, satellite radio increases one's choices.

If you are fed up with the present range of radio stations in your area then the thousands of extra, frequently world-wide stations available to you on satellite radio may be just the thing that you are looking for, particularly if you are searching for a station in a foreign language that is not covered in your neighborhood.

Discussing The History Of Walkie Talkies

By Calvin Johnson

Walkie talkies are very commonly used for communication between two points. The half duplex channels allow only one radio to transmit at one point of time and the other would have to just listen. It is only one way communication that is possible.

They have built in speakers in them and hence do not need to have a separate earphone like that of a telephone to be held to the ear.

The walkie talkie is a hand held rectangular box like telephone handset but bigger in size and with a antenna that is on top of the unit. The receivers at both ends are connected to the fixed radio stations and transmit and receive one way messages.

Motorola became the first famous company to have assembled the first radio handheld transmitter and responder set using frequency modulation. The word 'walkie talkie' was first coined by Motorola which then went on to become world famous. The first model manufactured was SCR -300 which was a backpack mounted version.

Before introducing the 'walkie talkie', Motorola had introduced during World War II, the first self contained and handheld device named 'Handie talkie'. But the performance was not as good as the 'walkie talkie' which was an improvised version introduce later.

Today 'walkie talkie' is being used in various sectors including defense, security, public crowd management as well as various consumer, entertainment and recreational businesses too. You get kideei 'walkie talkie' too for children to play with. The models, features as well as the prices vary depending upon the usage, range and other factors.

With improved technology the 'walkie talkie' have also become sophisticated, more compact and user friendly. The commercial 'walkie talkie' tend to be a lot of studier, bigger sets with protective casing and operate on limited frequencies but with clarity. On the other hand the personal and individual sets tend to be sleeker, compact and light weight and can operate on many channels that are available within the band, but tend to lack in clarity.

'walkie talkie' for kids are available in the market . These are built relatively using low technology as compared to the others and operate within a range of few meters. They are pretty cheap and do not require a license to use.

What Is Satellite Radio Technology?

By Owen Jones

Satellite radio technology is the equivalent of cable or satellite TV and it is definitely here to stay. There are several reasons for this: the quality of the broadcasts is higher, the quality of the apparatus's reception is higher and the general coverage of the channel, that is to say the so-called satellite's footprint is much greater as well.

This means that if you drive long distances, you will be able to stick with the same station without having to look for a new one every forty or fifty miles as you need to do with AM or FM radio channels.

In order to reach this quality, the recording and playback speed needs to be around the 384 kbps level. The music tracks are catalogued in a similar way to the MP3 system, which uses names called ID3 tags.

Each station on satellite radio endevours to create its own identity. A music station might try this by playing music only of one sort or from only one era or decade. This means that you may get a satellite radio station called 1970's Punk music or Twentieth Century Classical Music.

On some stations, the music controller or disc jockey will choose, say, fifty minutes worth of music, will listen to it in order to ascertain that the quality and the order are correct and then let the computer play it over the airwaves. This allows ten minutes every hour for the news and then the programme can be repeated automatically.

Satellite transmission uses digital recordings and each channel is encoded on a different frequency. Similarly, each decoder, say, in your car or your home has to recognize and decode each channel separately as well. This coding and decoding is done very quickly, in fact in what is called 'real time'.

The resulting binary or digital code is then turned into into analogue signals so that your speakers can reproduce it. This process produces sound which is just about of CD quality.

The broadcasting satellites are in a geo-static orbit at 23,000 miles above the Earth and have a large footprint which is the name given to the region of ground that is capable of receiving their broadcasts.

In America, for example, the two fields concentrated on at first were the densely populated east and west coasts in order to maximize possible income. One satellite would be incapable of covering the whole of the United States in that orbit.

In order to receive satellite broadcasts, you will have to use a special antenna on your decoder. This antenna must be capable of picking up L-band transmissions for it to be of use.

These new antennas are a big improvement on the satellite dishes (similar to those used for satellite TV) that one used to have to have in order to take advantage of satellite radio technology

Just What Is Satellite Radio?

By Owen Jones

Satellite radio has in fact been around for quite some time, but it was inaccessible to many people because the stations that were broadcasting were fairly unknown, the equipment was costly and the antennas, normally in the form of dishes were highly directional, which meant you needed to use expensive, experienced installers.

For proof of this you should look no further than bookmakers and betting shops who had specialized satellite broadcasts beamed to their establishments with the results of the races live.

The difference now is in cost and the power of the satellite radio transmission units as well as the receivers. In other words, satellite radio technology has advanced a long way since the Eighties. Satellite radio can also be received more easily these days, although the reception of satellite TV broadcasts still necessitates a directional receiving dish. This is why satellite TV cannot be received well on a boat or in a car, but you can still get satellite radio and you can still use your mobile phone.

Satellite radio broadcasts are digital so most of the benefits of using it are associated with digital technology. Some of these are: the ability to pick up signals from all around the wold through the satellite network and the lack off interference - that annoying hiss that you frequently could hear at night while listening to a distant broadcast. Reception is now consistently crystal clear due to the uncomplicated means that is digital - on and off or high and low.

Digital only makes use of two signals so they are not possible to mix up, whereas analogue needed millions of them allowing for mistakes due to bad weather or / and bad equipment. That has been largely eradicated.

The state of affairs in the US is that there is still competition between two contrasting systems: XM and Sirius and it is to be hoped that this situation will soon be resolved as it was thirty years ago between VHS and Betamax, because otherwise it will only be the public who lose out in the end - the clients of the firm that goes bankrupt.

There were initially problems with satellite radio in some areas because natural or man-made structures would block the line of sight from the antenna or dish to the satellite causing a break in transmission. Typical causes for this would be tunnels, mountains and sky scrapers.

However, the satellite radio service providers soon came up with a solution to the problem by bouncing the signal from the airborne satellite off terrestrial dishes, in other words, reflecting them at closer to ground level, thereby providing satellite radio to millions of inner city dwellers.

Iphone 4 Launches In China Despite The Nation's History Of Imitations

By Ian Austin

Right now when we discuss a nation that has a repute of imitating nearly a myriad of brands of items, nobody will even contest that when we point out China to be that country and say that it's just black propaganda and a one-sided declaration.

China has imitated almost all kinds of brands and products that it has been long known to manufacture and market affordable yet mediocre products like DVD players and other electronic gadgets like mobile phones. The country has a big reputation of pirating original brands that when a Chinese person goes inside a Louis Vuitton store in Paris and asks to buy the latest designer bag, there would be a lot questions and information taken to make sure that this person is not buying to they could copy the design and imitate it.

Indeed, China does have its negative reputation but when the new iPhone 4 was realized in the United State, it took only a few months before Apple investors decided to launch the original phone in China. Not like the previous iPhone 3GS that took more that a year to reach China after its official launch in the US, the iPhone 4 was so popular that customers in China have already pre-ordered their iPhone 4s before the official launch.

Folks have waited in line to order their very own iPhone 4 smart phone, many of them even waited in line for 2 days ahead of time so the they can be many of the first men and women to get a hold of this futuristic iPhone . And although there are a lot of counterfeit phones in China, for many people absolutely nothing can still beat the original regardless of how high-priced it maybe.

The completely new iPhone 4 costs $600 - $800, not a very small sum of money for one phone. But if you have used it, I know your money makes it worth while. Just make sure that you get proper iPhone 4 insurance to protect this valuable purchase. IPhone insurance covers your iphone in case it had been impaired or robbed and the operator is guaranteed a replacement.

Obtaining the iphone and using it without having the right insurance for iPhone is risky simply because of its price. The possibilities that it can be broken is usually there, and right now that its part of the phones the Chinese will be employing, we can anticipate a great deal of inquiries once the iPhone 4 hits the stores anew in China.

Playboy Satellite Radio: A Strange Phenomenon

By Owen Jones

Satellite radio has truly taken off in some parts of the world, particularly in countries with a large land mass. Places like America, Canada, Europe and Australia, places where it is hard to realize national coverage with traditional terrestrial radio broadcasting without hundreds of expensive sub-stations to boost the signal.

Yes, without a shadow of a doubt, satellite radio is here to stay for several reasons. First of all, satellite radio is digital and therefore is able to produce sound of very high quality. Terrestrial digital radio can do that too, you might say.

Yes, that is true, but the coverage of terrestrial digital radio is rather small which means tht if you are driving a long way, you will have to keep retuning your radio to a different station, whereas with satellite, the footprint can cover thousands of square miles.

A lot of new satellite radio channels are springing up all the time. It appears that everyone wants to get their hands on this new marvel of wide-area coverage at a cheaper price than it used to cost to cover a county. And why not? The advertising potential is quite fantastic compared to the old fashioned local AM or FM radio stations. Radio has now gone countrywide.

Playboy Satellite radio is one of those firms that has grasped the potential of satellite radio and set up its own channel with a large footprint. It was launched in March 2006 on the Sirius network by Christie Hefner and now boasts over one million subscribers, which is a truly impressive figure. There have almost certainly never before been a million opt-in subscribers to any radio network channel ever in times gone by before.

What makes this number of one million subscribers even more impressive is that the Playboy satellite radio channel is not part of a package or a bundle of other channels. No, people have to willingly phone up or go to the Playboy website and request membership in person, that is to say that it costs time and effort to sign up and one million people thought that it was worth it.

Something else that is curious is that the Playboy brand is associated with visual stuff - naked ladies, in fact - and radio is well-known for not being very good at visual representation. It is clear that no radio station is going to make much progress in the market place using nudity as a trump card.

So what is going on here? Well, the fact is that no-one is really completely certain. You have to subscribe, but it is free at the moment. It is also true that the Playboy brand name is considered cool and distinctive among a certain stratum of society, but will that be enough to keep people tuned in? Only time will tell.

The answer almost certainly lies in the fact that it is free and that it can be accessed over a considerable area, but they cannot be the only reasons. There is probably a novelty value too and the quality of the programmes will have to be high as well.

Basic Tips On Satellite Radio And Whether Or Not It Is For You

By Matt Jefferson

Broadcasting digital radio by way of satellite is not something new and concepts of doing this have been with us for a few years. From the beginning of satellite radio, companies like Dish Network have provided electronic digital audio stations in their packages. The breakthrough in popularity of satellite radio, however, happened just recently, when the technology became much more permissive. Satellite radio was unusual on moving locations, such as boats or automobiles, mostly because there was the necessity for some high-priced equipment - a tracking dish. This was a substantial deterrent that kept satellite radio pretty mysterious by the general public. Right now, on the other hand, one can receive digital audio satellite shows by using a small, GPS-like antenna. This tremendously increased the feasibility of the satellite radio systems and increasingly more automobile owners began thinking about satellite radios as a good source of music and news.

The birth of satellite radio in America

Once the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) assigned a spectrum in the "S" band (2.3 GHz) for the transmission of digital radio services in 1992 nobody considered the amplitude how the system might take in the foreseeable future. From the original Digital Audio Radio Service (DARS) things advanced until two organizations were given licenses to be able to broadcast digital radio in the late nineties. These two were American Mobile Radio (these days called XM Satellite Radio) and CD Radio (at this time known as Sirius Satellite Radio). The truth that satellite radio is countrywide helps it be an incredibly desirable media channel, both for commercial as well as non-profit organizations. The two companies that started the development of satellite radio observed the enormous potential it had, because it wasn't restricted by the constraints of other terrestrial broadcasters.

Features about utilizing satellite radio

Listed below are some of the most noteworthy advantages of using a satellite radio system:

* Forget about physical limits - because the radio program is transmitted via a satellite it's not necessary to change radio stations each time you leave a particular coverage region.

* The digital quality of the satellite radio features several incredible benefits on its own. There won't be noise disruptions which were standard to FM and AM programming. The transmission is really clear and satellite radio gets a few important points when broadcasting quality is concerned.

* Analog radio stations just cannot broadcast all of the selection of sounds accessible through digital satellite radio.

* Both XM Radio and Sirius Radio can be picked up in all the US and they are also available in some regions of Canada and Mexico.

Satellite radio technology

Every one of the major satellite radio services makes use of its own equipment to broadcast the signal to their clients. The competition is tight and clients have to "pick sides" in order to gain from satellite radio broadcasting. You have to decide on your preferred firm and buy satisfactory receivers for that particular company. Both XM Radio and Sirius Radio supply their clients with various ways of receiving their services. The field in which most competition happens is incorporated in the negotiation with the major automobile manufacturers. Both XM Radio and Sirius Radio possess deals with the auto industry giants in order to offer their services and equipment as optional on the car models they produce. Other partnerships were created with audio equipment manufacturers, who now offer satellite radio transceivers and corresponding headphones. The newest jolt inside the satellite radio universe has been brought on by the production of transportable MP3 player-like satellite radio receivers.

The longer term progression of satellite radio

One of the many troubles of satellite radio ended up being tackled by the primary satellite radio broadcasters. Because you have to be in the line of sight of the satellite for the transmission, different problems came out with mobile satellite radio receivers, particularly when several landscaping objects impeded the direct transmission. To fix this, terrestrial based equipment were set up in order to eradicate the lack of direct satellite transmission. Another interesting facet linked to satellite radios is they contacted their service offers coming from a distinct perspective when compared with standard radio broadcasters. Instead of airing ads it costs a subscription fee. For many people, this is actually the ideal choice, simply because they experience an almost 100% content program (whether or not it's music or talk shows) devoid of the 10-12 minutes each hour of irritating advertisements. In most cases, the monthly membership for satellite radio is about $12.

How Radio Advertsing In Leeds Can Benefit Your Business

By Mark Hall

The Internet gets a tremendous amount of publicity in our society. This may sometimes cause us to forget something: there are still a lot more people with radios on earth than there are ones with Internet access. Radio advertsing in Leeds , or anywhere else for that matter, might thus still be your best way to reach large numbers of people.

Targeted advertising: Just as with the Net, you can carefully target your advertisement to reach a particular audience. Advertising just before the news will reach a different audience than placing and ad in the middle of a discussion program about medical issues for example. Radio stations have widely divergent audiences, and you can pick a station and a time that will reach your target audience with a high level of accuracy.

There is one important difference between the World Wide Web and radio advertising. The Internet is still largely concentrated on visual advertising, such as banner ads and text links. The radio uses audio to reach a specific audience. This aspect of the radio gives it an advantage, since many people tend to remember something they hear longer than something they read.

Another benefit of the radio is that it's portable. Radio listeners often have radio with them when they go to the beach, when they drive or even when they eat. Advertising during peak traffic periods will give you the added advantage that people listening to their radios in their cars form a captive audience who have no choice but to listen to your ad.

The Net has made such dramatic inroads in developed countries that we tend to forget than more than eighty percent of the world still does not have Internet access. If your audience is people living in remote country villages or less developed areas of the world, wireless ads might be your best option. There is virtually nowhere in the world where someone can't listen to the radio, even though it might only be shortwave.

Something else that many people do not take into account when planning their advertising campaigns is that across the globe there are still more than a billion people who can not read or write. The Internet and the written media can not access these people. The only way in which to get your message across to them is by using the radio. This is why Radio advertsing in Leeds can often be your most sensible option.

Advice For Discovering The Best Audio Amplifier

By Brian Fuller

Picking a good audio amplifier for your speakers is not a trivial task. You want to ensure that your amp matches your speakers. I will explain some basic amplifier terms and give some pointers to help you pick the best amplifier.

There is a flood of different audio amplifiers available which all differ in their specifications, shape and size. However, you don't need to be an expert to pick the best model. By following some basic rules you won't regret your buying decision.

The most apparent parameter is the size of the amplifier. There are models that are as big as half your living room while some of the newest mini amplifier models are as small as a bar of soap. A large number of amps are the size of a standard rack. This allows your amp to be stacked on top of your other audio devices.

There are some core amplifier technologies available. One technology is called "solid-state". Solid-state amps now account for the majority of audio amplifiers. In the past, tube amplifiers have been popular. Even today tube amplifiers are still available. Tube amplifiers, however, have a fairly high amount of harmonic distortion. Harmonic distortion refers to how much the audio signal is degraded while being amplified. This term is often used while comparing the audio quality of amplifiers.

An audio distortion of up to 10% is typical for tube amps while solid-state amps have lower audio distortion depending on the particular technology. In the past, mostly "Class-A" and "Class-AB" amps were available which are also known as "analog amplifiers". While amplifiers using these technologies typically have low audio distortion, power efficiency is only 10% to 30%. Power efficiency refers to how much of the electrical power is actually used to amplify the signal. The remaining portion is wasted as heat. An amplifier with low power efficiency will radiate most of its power as heat.

"Class-D" amplifiers, however, which are also called "digital amplifiers" have a power efficiency of at least 80% and are smaller and have a smaller power supply than comparable analog amplifiers. The downside is that many digital amplifiers have higher audio distortion than analog amplifiers although some of the latest models employ a feedback mechanism to reduce distortion to levels of 0.05% and below.

Your amplifier should deliver sufficient power to drive your speakers. The amount of power will depend on the power handling rating of your speakers. Another factor is the size of your room. There are two values for speaker power handling: peak and average power handling. The peak value shows how much power the speaker can handle for short periods of time. The average value on the other hand describes how much power the speaker can tolerate continuously without damage.

In a small listening environment, you may not need to drive your speakers to their rated value. 20 to 40 Watts of power will probably be plenty. Speakers however differ in their impedance and sensitivity. As a rule of thumb speakers with low impedance offer higher sensitivity. High-sensitivity speakers are easier to drive to high volume than low-sensitivity speakers. Not all amplifiers can drive any speaker impedance. Find out the impedance of your speaker which is given in Ohms. Then look at your amplifier manual to ensure that your amp can drive this impedance.

Lastly, make sure that your amplifier introduces little noise and has a broad enough frequency response. High-quality amplifiers will have a signal-to-noise ratio of at least 100 dB and a frequency response of at least 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

Is AOL Radio Going To Cause The Extinction Of Traditional Stations?

By Brian Fuller

Online radio such as AOL Radio, Slacker, Pandora and Last.fm have gained popularity lately. In addition, many wireless devices such as mobile phones support these platforms. Are local radio stations doomed? I will take a closer look at online radio to try to answer this question. In particular I will examine the impact of online radio on local broadcasters.

I appears that local radio stations are on their way to become extinct. They are being threatened by the advance of online and satellite radio. These competing services typically offer hundreds of music and entertainment channels. Some of the channels are even commercial-free. The internet has enabled access to a virtually unlimited number of online radio channels.

Pandora and other online radio services have become available of wireless audio devices by installing the appropriate app. This increases convenience and mobility of online radio. Mobility has thus far been the biggest advantage of local radio.

AOL Radio uses CBS radio as its broadcasting platform. It comes with over 200 music channels. In addition it offers access to more than 150 local CBS radio stations. The underlying CBS radio platform "play.it" also allows listeners to create their own customized music channels. This is done by entering the names of albums, tracks or artists. The tracks played on each music channels can also be stored on an iPod for later playback by using 3-rd party tool iGetMusic.

Pandora and other online radio services have similarly started to offer customize music. The user can enter music-related information such as artist, track or album name. These channels will then select tracks which are similar to the information entered. Thus far, however, competing music services have fallen short from offering similarly fully customized radio channels.

Does online radio mean the end of local radio? The growing number of options clearly is going to shrink the market share of traditional radio broadcasters. Online radio is particular useful for niche broadcasters who have been unable to broadcast due to the high cost and licensing of frequency space.

Online radio broadcasters have found it difficult to be profitable. The main reason is the huge number of competing channels which is diluting listeners. The lower cost of online radio at the same time allows creation of more appealing content than local radio by serving niche markets and inserting fewer commercials.

Local programming such as news and local events, however, will remain one of the big advantages of local radio. Thus far the poor audio quality of FM radio has been a big drawback. However, new digital radio broadcasts are set to improve the audio quality. One of these technologies is HD radio. Content and mobility will be crucial in determining the fate of online and local radio. Online radio offers a large number of choices while local radio excels by supplying local content. Both online and local broadcasts offer great mobility. Therefore it is hard to predict a clear winner in this radio battle.

A Glance At Some Of The Coolest Wireless Toys

By Brian Fuller

Lately a large number of wireless audio products have emerged such as latest-generation wireless headphones, iPods, cell phones and wireless amplifier products which promise to cut the cord. I will take a look at some of the newest gadgets and technologies to find out how well they work and in which situations they work best.

Products can be categorized into products with built-in and those with optional wireless capability. Streaming audio products will often have a plug-in slot for adding a wireless LAN card. Latest generation iPods and cell phones already come with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth support.

The Bluetooth protocol is a fairly low-cost solution. However, its drawbacks have an impact on high-quality audio applications and are often overlooked.

1) Short range

Bluetooth normally only offers a 30 foot range. This is sufficient for single-room applications. However, this limitation does not allow multi-room streaming using Bluetooth.

2) Limited data transmission capacity

Bluetooth will apply audio compression since it does not reliably offer a high-enough data rate for uncompressed audio. Audio compression will degrade the audio quality to some extent. High-quality audio transmission typically does not tolerate this type of degradation. Therefore Bluetooth is normally not used in high-end audio products.

3) Audio latency

The signal transmitted via Bluetooth will undergo a slight delay of at least 10 ms. This is mostly due to the audio compression. While being uncritical for MP3 players, this delay may be a problem for video and other real-time applications.

4) Lacking multi-headphone support

Bluetooth does not support any number of headphones which may be a problem if you have a larger number of people who want to listen to headphones from a single transmitter device.

Uncompressed audio streaming is supported by WiFi. WiFi is a very common protocol. However, WiFi also has limitations in regard to simultaneous transmission to several receivers. Due to the high availability, WiFi is convenient for streaming audio from a PC. However, WiFi products have fairly high power consumption. For this reason wireless headphones typically do not use this technology.

While newest-generation wireless speakers and wireless amplifier products use proprietary digital technologies, entry-level products often still rely on FM transmission which is noisy and has high audio distortion and high susceptibility to radio interference.

More recent wireless audio protocols are based on digital transmission. This avoids audio degradation. Some protocols also incorporate error correction to deal with interference from other wireless devices.

Advanced wireless amplifier devices support uncompressed digital audio streaming to preserve the original audio quality. Some of these protocols allow streaming to an unlimited number of wireless amplifiers which is convenient for whole-house audio distribution. The audio latency ranges from below 1 ms to up to 20 ms. A small latency is important for wireless surround sound applications. These wireless audio transmitters typically work at 2.4 GHz. There are also some products such as Amphony's line of wireless audio products which work at 5.8 GHz. Products that operate at 5.8 GHz have less competition from other wireless devices than those using the crowded 2.4 GHz frequency band.

Wireless amplifiers are available with different levels of audio quality, power consumption and standby power. Having a high-quality low-distortion amplifier is vital for good sound quality. Digital Class-D amplifiers offer high power efficiency of at least 80%. They also have low standby power, typically less than 5 Watts. This reduces heat and keeps them cool during operation. Some digital amplifiers, however, have fairly high harmonic distortion. It is important to select a wireless amplifier with low audio distortion. This will ensure good sound quality. High-quality amplifiers have audio distortion of 0.05% or less.

Sirius vs. XM Satellite Radio Compare: Which One Is Better For You?

By Matt Barns

We have all heard of the two major satellite companies available today, Sirius Radio and XM Satellite Radio. Many people, maybe even you, don't even know that much about them such as costs or what is even available on a satellite radio. They are tired of listening to the old AM and FM standard radio stations for valid reasons. Many FM and AM radio stations publish long waits with commercials. Whichever reason it may so be, people are turning to satellite radio more and more than regular radio stations.

Both companies are able to offer you static free radio due to satellites. XM (based in Washington D. C. ) has two and Sirius (based in New York) has three satellites across the United States. Both companies offer users commercial free radio. Sirius offers over 125 channels and XM offers 160 different channels. There are dedicated channels for genres of music such as jazz, folk, country and pop for die-hard fans. One cool feature of satellite radio is you can see the name of the artist playing as well as the song title. So never again do you have to spend time wondering just who sang that song you just heard! There are also channels for local weather and traffic, sports, comedy, women's issues, talk shows, even old time radio shows. Soon, you may be able to see video as well as hear audio on your satellite radios.

Celebrity shows exist for both XM and Sirius radio companies. The celebrity, Martha Stewart recently signed a deal to launch a 24-hour radio channel on the Sirius network. Howard Stern is also another famous figure on the Sirius network. Howard Stern, having been into trouble with the FTC for his show, decided to jump to uncensored airways of satellite radio. Since his decision to do so, his subscriber base has increased by a minimum of 2.7 million. If you have satellite radio and would like to hear National Public Radio, You will have to subscribe to Sirius as they are the only company offering the service.

It all sounds wonderful, however, what do you really need item wise to receive satellite radio? Well, You have to acquire either a Sirius or XM radio system. It does not have to be a radio for use in your car either. Home radios are available today and there are dual systems you can use in your home or your car. A price for a basic setup of the radio offered by both can be as low as $49. 99. You will need to subscribe for a service, however. Each company charges $12.95 a month for you to receive satellite signals on your radio. You can save, however, using a family plan available for both companies.

Just how popular is satellite radio becoming? In March of 2005, Hyundai announced that it would be the first automaker to put satellite radios in all of its models sold in the United States. Each Hyundai, including the popular Sonata, Santa Fe, and Elantra models, will come equipped with an XM satellite radio. When this was announced, shares in XM's parent company rose by more than 8 percent. Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz also announced in March 2005 that Sirius radios would be a dealer-installed option on some of their models.

So which satellite radio should I choose, you ask? It depends on you. You should check out the stations available by visiting the company website before any decision is made. Both of them are offering the radio at comparable prices, so it really comes down what you want to hear. Are you a fan of Stern? Then you have to go with Sirius. But if you love Oprah, you can listen to her on Oprah XM. Regardless of which one to choose, you will definitely be very pleased with either of the services and/or satellite receptions.

Is It Worth Getting A Two-Way Radio?

By Fabina Barorelli

There are many different uses for two-way radios. Personal use is probably the type most people are familiar with. Children use them as toys to play with in the yard or in the neighborhood. Most of us played with walkie-talkies at one point when we were growing up. Other personal uses include keeping in touch with your family members on a regular basis. Maybe your kids are going to play at the neighbor' house and you want to stay in touch with them.

Sometimes families will use them on camping trips or vacations to the beach simply as a way to be in easy reach of each other. Sometimes people who live in large houses use them to talk to the kids in the backyard or talk to other family members located at the other end of the house. Many will hooked them on their kids bicycles so that they can stay in touch with them while they are out with their friends. Obviously, these are just a few ways people use two-way radios for personal needs, but they are some of the more common uses.

Businesses use two-way radios as a matter of course. These devices provide the best way to communicate when people are working within a small radius but still are not within shouting distance. Many factories use them to connect loading docks with other departments through out the facility. This prevents people from having to run around all day long trying to locate other workers. They simply make working, more productive in these situations.

Two-way radios are more dependable for use in emergencies anyway. They don't have to pick up a signal from a cell phone tower. They are typically not dropped like so many cell calls are. The voice clarity is usually much better on a two-way than it is on a cell phone. More than one person can get a message with a two-way than with a cell phone also. If the side of a building that is on fire, is about to fall down, you want to be able to relay that message to all the firefighters at once, not one at a time.

Businesses are big users of two-way radios. Obviously, they will only work for others people who are working in the same location of a company. They will not carry from one company location to another that is located 300 miles away. But within a location they are a more reliable and convenient way of communicating between different departments, etc...

UHF two-way radios are used in high rise buildings because their signals have the capability to penetrate threw walls and floors and other obstacles to connect with the other users in the building. Restaurants use two-way radios to communicate with delivery drivers. Local delivery services use two-way radios in order to provide better service to their customers. Local delivery trucks are another example of a business use for the radios.

There are many other examples of business uses for two-way radios. They are however, a tool that can make any business more efficient and productive. The use of two-way radios is likely to continue a steady growth because of the reliable service they provide, whether for business, personal or emergency services.

As you can see, there are many different uses for two-way radios. The uses mentioned in this article are just a few. There are many others as well. Any place where people need to be in easily reachable within a localized area, the radios are one of the best ways to stay in touch.

Improving Your Signal With the Right FM Antenna - Buying a 300 Ohm FM Antenna

By Veronica Carrillo

Sirius satellite radio has been in the market for a long time and is still a hot seller. I bought one last week and the salesperson said that Sirius radio is one of the best selling items in his store. You see, the design is very nice and the quality is just great. For a person who lives alone in a small room like me, I need something to cheer me up and accompany me whenever I feel lonely.

Sirius radio is just the exact thing I've ever wanted. There are tons of music channels to choose from, from country, jazz, R&B to pop, rock, etc. Every kind of music for whatever mood you are in that moment. The service also offers sport channels, especially football. But if you get bored from music and sports, Sirius satellite radio can keep you focused and informed with the latest news and political issues.

The screen really is great and is readable even in bright sunlight. This unit comes with a suction cup mount, which is a whole lot better than the double sided tape that other brands use. This is a really big plus since sometimes I have to drive my car in places where breaking into cars is not uncommon, this way I can store my radio in a glove box. I am enjoying my favorite music genres with Sirius Radio as well as the extensive news services they provide.

In this age of information and technology, being the first person to know something is sometimes critical to your success as well as your well being. Satellite radio is just one of the very effective methods to do the job.

Some cons of Sirius satellite radio include that it does not support live concerts. This is a sad point for any of us who love to listen to live concerts. But well, let's be happy because Sirius satellite radio has many pros to compensate for that little shortcoming.

It even offers two channels dedicated to Howard Stern and celebrity host Oprah Winfrey. I am sure that's enough to cheer you up. There is an additional subscription option of $2.99 monthly to get the best sound quality. You can choose this option if you feel that the sound you get is bad, but I bet you won't need it because the sound quality of my radio is just great and there is nothing worth complaining about.
